Our Contractor, Bird Design Build Construction Ltd. and all of the
sub-contractors are moving ahead with construction despite some severe winter
weather. The sub-zero temperatures have created some hardships for the
construction however with today's technology and building practices the
project has managed to stay close to our building schedule.
N.B. Housing (Dept. of Social Development), First National LP and Columbian
Charities have been working together behind the scenes to align the financial
requirements to fund the project.
Fundy Harbour Property Management Ltd. has been retained by Columbian Charities
to manage our building. All rental enquiries must be directed to their office.
The planned occupancy of the apartment building is late summer or very early
fall of 2013.
As can be seen by recent pictures posted to our site, walls are now being
erected. It is expected that any loss of time during the cold weather will be
regained during this phase of construction. The entire exterior wall of the
foundation has now been poured allowing for the wall installation.
November 2012 through January 2013 was the most time consuming portion of the
construction phases. The water retention pond, excavation, earth moving,
footings and foundation work have finally reached a point where we will see the
building rise from the ground.
Bird Construction, Debly Construction (Majid), Fred Dixon (Project Manager),
Peter MacKenzie (Architect), Peter Jollymore (Financial Consultant), Frank Hamm
(Lawyer), Toby Bodechon (N.B. Housing), Bill Kwiecien (First National LP) and
the Board of Columbian Charities are pleased with the successes we have achieved
and appreciate the team effort to overcome the minor bumps in the road that
occur during such a project.
April of 2013 will see major road work as we begin building the City Street
(Eugene's Way) leading to the private portion of Eugene's Way which will
then lead to the parking area adjacent to the front of the apartment building.
As the weather improves progress will increase and we look forward to our
official opening in late summer or very early fall of 2013.
Please follow our progress on this site which is constantly updated with
important information and pictures to show our progress.
